Project Details

Project Overview

A medical technology startup required functional prototypes of their device housing for FDA testing and clinical trials. The parts needed to be strong, biocompatible, and accurately represent the final injection-molded product.

Manufacturing Approach

Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) with Nylon 12 was the ideal choice for this application. SLS produces strong, functional parts without support structures, allowing for complex internal geometries.

Technical Specifications

  • Material: Nylon 12 (biocompatible grade)
  • Wall thickness: 2mm minimum
  • Snap-fit features requiring flexibility
  • Sterilization compatible

Challenges & Solutions

The design included living hinges and snap-fit features that needed to function reliably through multiple cycles. Our engineering team optimized the print orientation to ensure maximum strength along critical stress points.

Outcome

Delivered 25 functional prototypes that performed flawlessly through testing protocols. The client successfully completed their FDA submission using our parts.
