Frequently Asked Questions

What file format do I need for laser cutting?
We accept DXF files (preferred for engineering parts) and SVG files (common for design and illustration work). Cut lines should be on a separate layer or colour from engrave lines. If you only have a PDF or image, contact us — we can often work from these with a small redraw fee.
What is the maximum sheet size you can cut?
Our CO2 laser bed handles sheets up to 900 × 600 mm. For larger parts, we can cut in sections and advise on joinery. Contact us with your dimensions if you are unsure whether your part will fit.
What materials can you NOT cut with a CO2 laser?
We do not cut PVC, polycarbonate (it burns rather than cuts cleanly), or carbon fibre (hazardous fumes). Stainless steel and thick aluminium require fibre laser cutting, which we do not currently offer in-house. For these materials, our CNC machining service may be a suitable alternative.
Can you both cut and engrave in the same job?
Yes — cutting and engraving can be combined in a single job at no extra setup cost. This is particularly useful for acrylic panels with engraved text or logos, and for MDF parts that need surface detail alongside through-cuts.
How do I get a quote for laser cutting in Leeds?
Send your DXF or SVG file with your material, thickness, and quantity requirements via our contact page. We will confirm cut length, material cost, and lead time — usually within one business day. For simple jobs with standard materials, turnaround is often next day.
